ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS
CHEMISTRY
CHEMICAL BUILDING BLOCKS
This course is an
introduction to Chemistry. Students learn about properties of matter, chemical
and physical changes. Classification of matter, pure substances and mixtures
are discussed. Students find out about discovery of atoms and chemical
elements, distinguish between elements and compounds. Different substances,
their properties, occurrence in nature and uses are discussed. Course consists
of 20 classes and includes on line activities and assessments
CHEMISTRY
CHEMICAL INTERACTIONS
This is a basic
Chemistry Course. Students learn about Periodic Table of Elements, atomic
structure and chemical bonding. Formation of compounds, their chemical
formulas, composition and names are discussed.
Students learn about chemical
reactions, write chemical equations and distinguish among different types of
chemical changes. Chemical nature of acids and bases, their uses are discussed
as well as natural and synthetic organic compounds, their structures,
properties and uses in every day life. Course consists of 20 classes and
includes on-line activities and presentations.

BIOLOGY
From Bacteria to
Plants
This course
introduces to students all Domains of Life on Earth. It describes different
Kingdoms of Living Things: Bacteria, Protists, Fungi and Plants. Students also
discuss viruses, their discovery and role in medicine and biotechnology and
viral diseases.
Students lean
about bacteria, the most primitive living things on Earth, the first
inhabitants on our planet. Classification of bacteria and their role in human
health, medicine, biotechnology and environment is described.
Botany, the study
of plants is also a part of this course. Students learn plant classification,
main characteristics and reproduction. Seedless and seed plants are described
and their role in the environment is discussed. Program consists of 20 classes
and includes video lessons and on-line activities.
